Nothing says "home" like that iconic view of the Thames river you see as you fly back into London. When I used to fly between Doha and London regularly, this view is how I knew I was back to the familiar. It's a bittersweet moment: the excitement and newness of your trip overtaken by that longing for the family, friends, and city you've missed so much. It's an important moment, and I wanted to capture it- not just for myself- but for you out there who know exactly what I'm describing.
I also wanted to honor the fact that London is a city bursting at the seams with life- there's more going on there than any one person could ever hope to experience. It will always have its own sense of newness. At the same time, I wanted to break away from my traditional style of two dimensional skylines and really challenge myself to go deeper. I spent weeks and more hours than any sane person would, adding every single line of detail I could. You can look at this painting a hundred times, and you'll find something new every time. Just like London itself.
